About Antonia
Born in Hamburg, Germany, Antonia grew up in Bolzano, Italy. After living and studying in Paris, Barcelona and Rome she relocated to Hamburg, where she is now based, working as a freelance photographer. In 2006 she finished a diploma at the Istituto superiore di Fotografia in Rome and went on to attend the Danish School of Journalism in Aarhus.
Aside from commissioned work for national and international media, she is presently working on personal social documentary projects, including collaborative projects with the Focus Agency Hamburg and Zeitenspiegel.
About ‘Down There’
The Safari Club in Hamburg, 2009, is the only sex cabaret left out of nine on the Reeperbahn. It is the last sex-cabaret in Germany with the concession of showing life sex on stage. When the owner, who at the time of the project was 82 years old, retires from this vocation, the Safari Club and it’s atmosphere will go with him. The famous sinful mile and red light district is turning into a living museum where tourists are searching the old times and politics are pushing towards modernity. Decades ago everyone could make money out of the district; today only few. The “millionaires” from yesterday are now on the edge of poverty.
